Mark Jacob founded PADDA in 1988 after his own
son was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, and has been employed
as a full-time Executive Director since 1994. Mr. Jacob is responsible for
management, fundraising, and, his most important task, educational
advocacy. He speaks regularly to parent and advocacy organizations.
Mr. Jacob represents parents/caregivers
at school meetings, assisting them the Special Education/504 eligibility
process and subsequent Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)/Planning
meetings. His expertise is based on his training with the Parent
Educational Advocacy Training Center (PEATC), now based in Springfield,
VA. He is a certified team trainer for PEATC.
In the past year, Mr. Jacob has completed his
course work in General Mediation with the Dispute Resolution Center in
Norfolk, and Mark is a General and Family Mediator in Virginia. He has
personally represented parents in several mediations this year, and, with
the exception of one, all came to successful resolutions. He is a believer
in the mediation process as it applies to special education.
He is past president of the Attention Deficit
Disorder Association of Virginia and a past member of the Board of
Directors of the National Attention Deficit Disorder Association.
